Since graduating at the St. Petersburg Conservatoire (faculty of composition and theory of music) in 1982, Dmitri Pavlov has written for films, theatre and ballet as well as instrumental and symphony music. His interests vary from Piano Concertos to electronic and computer compositions. A triple prizewinner at the International Competition of Electroacustic Music in Bourges (one of the winning entries was The Life of Colour) and the composer for the documentary "Kolyma" (the winning entry at the 1992 International Film Festival in Copenhagen), Dmitri Pavlov has invariably experimented with several musical forms in the process of creating his works. All of his compositions reflect this experimentation as well as his interest in art and philosophy. In 1995 Dmitri Pavlov moved to Berlin, where he continued his work as a composer. In the past few years he completed the first concerto ever written for a computer and an orchestra and that work was performed in Germany. He also written a sound track to a much acclaimed film The Cuckoo (A. Rogozshkin director) and in 2004 Dmitri Pavlov received for his music State Prize of The Russian Federation form the president Vladimir Putin.
